JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State volleyball teams win streak came to a halt on Monday evening with a loss to the Alabama A&M Lady Bulldogs.
Lady Bulldogs started out strong right out of the gate with a momentum-shifting first set that allowed them to take a one-set lead after a 25-10 victory to put them ahead on over Jackson State 1-0.
The second set was much similar to set one, however; the Jackson State Tigers were able to slow down the attack of the Lady Bulldogs with several runs of their own.
The Tigers were able to close the gap in the score yet fell in the set by a final score of 25-22 as Alabama A&M quickly took a 2-0 match lead.
In the third set the Lady Tigers looked to gain control and appeared on their way to a set victory however a quick timeout from the Bulldogs allowed A&M to regroup, as they were able to work from behind by coming back to defeat Jackson State in the third and final set, taking the match 3-0.
The loss for the Tigers was the first in many games and just a second loss in conference play this season for the JSU. Jackson State now sits with an overall record of 10-14 with the conference record of 6-2.
Jackson State hits the road this Thursday for a road matchup in Itta Bena (Miss.) versus conference opponent Mississippi Valley State University.
Despite the loss, the Tigers were led by
Jylen Whitten with 12 kills in the matchup with
Camry Dabney finishing behind her with nine kills and
Madison Wolfe with four kills
Damassy Thompson finished first for the Tigers with 16 total assists while
Sapphire Simpson collected a total of nine assist in the match.
Alana Washington had a total of 15 digs while
Damassy Thompson ended with eight digs. Whitten also collected seven digs.
Thursday's matchup with Mississippi Valley State is set to begin at 6 p.m. central time.
