ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Jackson State volleyball team claimed another conference victory on Thursday evening at Mississippi Valley State to improve to 7-2 in the SWAC.
Jackson State, after having its six game win streak snapped on Monday, came out determined and strong in the first set of the match, handing MVSU a 25-12 set loss to take a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers, held a slight lead midway through the second set of the contest, yet were able to hold on and edge Valley in the second set with a 25-21 victory.
In the third set, Jackson State once again could not be denied as the Blue and White went on to finish with a 25-17 third and final set victory over MVSU to claim a 3-0 win.
Taila Gaines was a force in the match with a team high 10 kills on 19 total attacks. Jylen Whitten had seven kills and a team high 12 digs along with Alana Washington who also ended with 12 digs.
Camry Dabney and Marina Bianchi Brito had nine and six kills apiece. Damassy Thompson ended with 17 assists behind DeKyra Dennis who had a team high 19 assists.Â
The Lady Tigers have eighth days off of competition before returning to the court for the SWAC Roundup which will be hosted by the Lady Tigers. JSU will take on Grambling State next Friday, Oct. 25 at 12:30 p.m. and then Prairie View A&M at 5:30 p.m.
