JACKSON – Boston College used a five-run eighth inning to defeat Jackson State 7-3 Friday evening in the Tigers 2019 season opener at Braddy Field.
The opening four frames was scoreless, but the Eagles scored a pair of runs in its part of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Junior
Wesley Reyes singled to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the Tigers on the board.
Senior
Raul Hernandez added a two RBI single to right field in the bottom of the ninth. Fellow senior and Longview, Texas native
Dezmond Chumley batted 1-for-4 with a run scored.
Anthony Becerra was tabbed with the start and absorbed the loss. The Las Vegas native tossed five innings and allowed five hits, two runs and three walks and fanned four batters.
The Tigers (0-1) and Eagles (1-0) are scheduled for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Braddy Field.
