JACKSON – Three student-athletes scored in double figures as Jackson State raced past Arkansas-Pine Bluff 60-41 Monday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action from the Lee E. Williams Athletic and Assembly Center.
The Lady Tigers complete first half the SWAC season with a three-game win streak. JSU improves to 8-12 and 4-5 in the SWAC, while UAPB falls to 4-12 and 1-8 in the conference.
Junior
Marneisha Hamer dropped 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, both of which were game highs. Senior
Christina Ellis continued her recent hot streak and added 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor. The San Diego native also played well on defense and recorded five steals.
Fellow junior
Sumer Williams scored 13 points and brought down six boards. Junior and Brooklyn, New York native
Kaisah Lucky added five points and handed out six assists.
The Blue and White dominated in the paint and outrebounded UAPB 45-32, including 16-9 on the offensive glass. JSU also scored 28 points in the paint and added seven second-chance points.
The Lady Tigers forced UAPB into 22 turnovers, which JSU promptly turned into 22 points.
JSU also did not allow a UAPB student-athlete to score in double digits.
As a team, JSU shot 40.4 percent (21-od-52) from the field, while holding the Golden Lions to 32.7 percent (17-of-52) from the floor.
JSU returns to the court Saturday at rival Alcorn State.
