LORMAN, Miss. – Junior
Venjie Wallis scored a team-high 13 points as Alcorn State used a late surge to defeat Jackson State 66-52 Saturday evening in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
JSU now stands at 9-14 and 6-4 in the SWAC, while Alcorn is 8-14 and 8-14 and 4-6 in conference action. Despite the setback, the Tigers still sit in the top half of the conference standings.
Senior
Dontelius Ross dropped 12 points and handed out three assists and recorded three steals. Fellow senior
Chris Howell added seven points and notched a pair of blocks.
Junior
Khalil Spencer and senior
Jontrell Walker each scored four points.
As a team, JSU shot 36.2 percent (21-of-58) from the field. JSU also went 8-of-13 at the free-throw line.
The Tigers return to action Monday at SWAC foe Southern, tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
