JACKSON – Jackson State split with Blue Mountain College Wednesday afternoon in a tune-up before Southwestern Athletic Conference play begins Friday.
BMC edged JSU in game one 2-1, while the Lady Tigers rolled to a 10-4 in game two.
In the nightcap
Elyssa Sanchez earned the win in the circle. The junior tossed a complete game and allowed eight hits, four runs and one walk and fanned two batters. Sanchez also induced nine ground outs.
Senior
Alexis Hansard batted 3-for-3 with three RBI drew one walk. Junior
Madelyn Prukop batted 1-for-1 with a pair of runs batted in and drew a pair of walks.
Nava Fisher went 2-for-4 with two RBI and scored a pair of runs, while
Destyn Jones batted 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Cheyenne Aplon also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored a run.
In game one
Kayla Owens tossed a complete game despite the setback.
The sophomore scattered seven hits and allowed two runs (none earned) and three walks and struck out three batters.
Prukop delivered a sacrifice fly in the third inning for the Lady Tigers lone run.
JSU returns to the diamond Friday and host Southern in its SWAC opener. The opening pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the JSU Softball Complex.
