JACKSON – Jackson State rallied in the sixth inning and defeated Southern in its SWAC opener Friday evening at the JSU Softball Complex.
 
Junior Madelyn Prukop started the sixth inning rally with a bases-loaded RBI single to third base. Kelsey Smith and Destyn Jones earned back-to-back walks and two runs scored. Brooke Boechler then added an RBI to close out the Lady Tigers scoring.
 
Elyssa Sanchez earned the win for the Lady Tigers. The San Antonio, Texas native tossed a complete-game and allowed six hits, three runs (two earned) and three walks.
 
Cheyenne Aplon and Zoey Keyes each stole a base.
 
The two teams complete the three-game series Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
