Tigers Power Past Delta Devils for Series Win

ITTA BENA, Miss. – Jackson State defeated Mississippi Valley State 13-3 and earned a pivotal Southwestern Athletic Conference Series win.
 
On the opening day played Saturday, the Tigers and Delta Devils split their series. MVSU won game one 2-0 and JSU roared back to win game two 11-1.
 
In the series clinching win, JSU jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back.
 
Batting from the No. 8 spot in the lineup, freshman Marshal Luiz batted 1-for-4 with three RBI.
 
The top half of the lineup also found success and finished a combined 8-for-19.
 
Chris Prentiss, Equon Smith, Jaylyn Williams and Raul Hernandez each brought in two RBI.
 
Garth Cahill earned the win. The South Africa native tossed seven innings and scattered five hits and allowed three runs (one earned) and one walk and fanned five batters,
 
In game two played on Saturday, Anthony Becerra tossed a complete game and scattered four hits, allowed no earned runs and walked a pair of batters to go with 11 strikeouts.
 
Becerra received plenty of run support.
 
J. Williams batted 2-for-6 with three RBI and scored a pair of runs and Hernandez also batted 3-for-6 with two RBI and scored two runs.
 
Prentiss also went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and scored two runs.
 
JSU returns to action Tuesday for a single nine-inning game versus Grambling.
