PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M defeated Jackson State 9-3 in the series opener Friday afternoon.
 
Junior Yasmin Melero batted 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in. Juniors Ariana Cruz and Cheyenne Aplon each finished 1-for-3, with Cruz scoring a run.
 
Elyssa Sanchez started in the circle for the Lady Tigers. The San Antonio native tossed four innings and scattered five hits and allowed four runs and four walks and fanned four batters.
 
The two teams return to the diamond Saturday for a 12/2 p.m. doubleheader.
