JACKSON – Alabama State defeated Jackson State 7-6 in the rubber match Sunday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
The game got off to a strong start for the Tigers as they raced out to a 5-2 lead behind junior
Jaylyn Williams. Williams put the Tigers ahead early in the first inning off of a two-run RBI single then followed that with a two -run RBI Double in the fifth after junior
Chandler Dillard scored on an error.
JSU did have players get multiple hits on base with Williams gaining three during his four at-bats and designated hitter
Chris Prentiss going 3-for-4 and scoring three runs.
Junior
Equon Smith also did damage going 2-for-4 and scored a pair of runs. However, the rest of the JSU lineup struggled to produce.
The defeat brings Jackson State's overall record to 10-16 with a 4-5 record in SWAC play. The series win for Alabama State moves them to 13-12 overall and 8-3 in conference action.
JSU continues their home stand Tuesday afternoon with a one game affair against Tougaloo College.
First pitch will be thrown at 3 p.m.
