JSU Nearly Completes Comeback Over ASU

JACKSON – Alabama State defeated Jackson State 12-1 and 13-11 Friday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action.
 
Game 1           Alabama State 12, Jackson State 1
 
Kelsey Smith batted 1-for-3 with an RBI triple.
 
Ariana Cruz, Madelyn Prukop, Yasmin Melero and Kaitlyn Elzie each picked up a hit. Elzie also picked up a stolen base.
 
Elyssa Sanchez absorbed the setback. She tossed two innings and allowed four hits, six runs (four earned) and one walk and fanned one batter.
 
Game 2           Alabama State 13, Jackson State 11
 
After falling behind 8-0, the Lady Tigers fought back and nearly rallied to complete the comeback.
 
To start JSU's part of the fourth, Destyn Jones doubled to center field to score two runs. Cheyenne Aplon then scored on a passed ball and Elzie came through with an RBI single. Elzie and Cruz would later score in the inning to bring JSU to within 8-6.
 
The Hornets added four runs in the top of the fifth, but JSU rallied again.
 
In JSU's part of the fifth, Smith doubled through the left side and to score a pair of runs. In the sixth frame, Jones doubled to left field to score a pair of runs and Cruz added an RBI single to right field.
 
The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend at Alabama A&M.
