JACKSON – Jackson State surged to a 10-2 victory over Rust College Saturday afternoon in non-conference action for Braddy Field.
The Tigers scored five runs in their part of the second inning.
Tyler Culpepper delivered a bunt single RBI and
Wesley Reyes scored on a passed ball to open a 2-0 lead.
Chandler Dillard then an RBI single and
Marshal Luiz crossed home plate on a passed ball.
Equon Smith closed on the scoring in the second inning with a bases-loaded walk.
Wesley Reyes started the third inning with an RBI double to left field and the Tigers loaded the bases and Dillard was hit-by-the-pitch to score another run
Nikelle Galatas earned the win on the bump. The sophomore tossed 6.0 innings and scattered a pair of hits, allowed two runs (one earned) and fanned a pair of batters.
Dillard finished 2-for-2 with four RBI, scored two runs and walked once. Smith batted 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in and drew a walk.
Game two of the doubleheader was rained out in the bottom of the third and the game will pick up where it left off in the bottom of the third inning Saturday at noon. Game three of the series will begin immediately following game two.
