HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jackson State softball split its doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Southwestern Athletic Conference action. AAMU won game one 9-3 and the Lady Tigers rolled to a 9-4 victory in the series finale.
Tied at 4-4 to begin the eighth inning, the Lady Tigers scored five runs to secure the extra-innings win.
Nava Fisher scored on an AAMU error to break the tie and
Kaitlyn Elzie then scored on a second AAMU miscue.
The bats then came through to extend the lead.
Cheyenne Aplon and
Kayla Owens each added an RBI double and
Destyn Jones produced an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Owens tossed a complete game to secure the win. The sophomore allowed nine hits and four runs and a walk while striking out a season-high 10 batters.
Zoey Keyes also went 1-for-5 with a pair of RBI and Aplon finished 2-for-5 with two RBI.
The Lady Tigers return to action next weekend at tsil.
