Tigers Turn in Hard Fought Match in Loss to McNeese

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Jackson State came up short in its matchup with McNeese State on Friday evening but the Tigers played with grit and gave in what might have been the teams best performance on the field despite the 2-0 loss.

"I don't think they respected us and given some of the inflated scores in our other matches, maybe I get that to some extent, however, that was our most committed performance bar none and if we didn't earn respect from people watching, as well as our opposition, then they missed the match because we gave everything." Said head coach Dr. Ted Flogaites

The Tigers have lost six games to begin the season, but have done so against top competition outside of SWAC play which has really forced a young and improving team to grow up and get better even while suffering some failures through the young part of the season.

"It's a loss but it's a loss where our effort and passion can't be questioned. We grew up a little bit tonight and it felt good."

The Tigers are building the foundation for the future of the program and coach Flogaites cannot be more proud of the way his girls continue to persevere through the tough parts of the schedule.

"I am enormously proud of the players and given our lack of depth numerically it was an insane commitment from the players. I can't ask more from them then what they gave tonight. That was an effort that would make anyone back at JSU proud and we are coming back to Tiger World looking to build on this performance."

The Lady Tigers finished with three shots as a team with Patricia Calderon, Sydni Wilson, and Megan Howell each having one shot a piece. Wilson had the only shot on goal for the Tigers.

Jackson State heads to south Mississippi to take on the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg on Sunday at 1 p.m. in what will be yet again another tough opponent the Blue and White will face.

"Sunday will be a tough match away at Southern Mississippi and we will have to bounce back mentally and physically quickly. We are fast becoming a resilient group."
