PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The SWAC Western Division Round-Up saw a surge of energy jolt into the JSU Lady Tigers against conference opponents, the Grambling State Lady Tigers and Texas Southern Lady Tigers for two huge conference victories.
Against Grambling State, JSU would take the first set battling it out for a 25-23 win. The Lady Tigers dropped the second set 14-25 as Grambling State battled back to tie the match at 1-1, but JSU was able to close out the match in four sets after 25-14, 25-19 victories.
Game leaders for Jackson State were Alexandra Burney and Jylen Whitten with 11 kills each, Damassy Thompson with two aces, Marina Bianchi Brito with three blocks, Dekyra Dennis with 22 assists and Alana Washington with 23 digs.
In game two, JSU faced off against Texas Southern for their second victory as the Lady Tigers claimed the match in straight sets, 25-20, 25-12, 25-13. Game leaders for Jackson State were Jylen Whitten with 17 kills, Sapphire Simpson with two aces and 19 blocks, Taila Gaines with four blocks and 19 digs by Alana Washington.
The Lady Tigers (5-12, 2-0) are back in action tomorrow for day two of the SWAC Western Division Round-Up taking on the Southern Lady Jaguars at 3 p.m. and the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Lady Lions at 7:00 p.m.
