PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Day two of the SWAC Western Division Round-Up saw Jackson State take on the Southern Lady Jaguars and Arkansas Pine-Bluff Lady Lions.
JSU split the day dropping the first match 3-1 to Southern but bounced back in a five-set thriller over UAPB.
In the first match of the day JSU faced off against the Southern Lady Jaguars. The Lady Tigers battled in the first two sets splitting with Southern dropping the first set 22-25 but claiming victory in the second decision 25-23.
JSU battled hard for the remainder of the match, but fell in four sets after dropping decisions 23-25, 18-25.
Game leaders were Jylen Whitten with 13 kills, Alexandra Burney with three aces and 13 digs, Camry Dabney with three blocks and Damassy Thompson with 16 assists.
In the second match, the Lady Tigers battled the Arkansas Pine-Bluff Lady Lions in an entertaining display of talent.
JSU and UAPB traded decisions in the first two sets as the Lady Tigers took the early lead after a 25-15 victory but dropped set two 18-25.
JSU fell behind 2-1 after dropping set three 20-25 but battled back for a 25-17 victory to tie the match at 2-2.
In the fifth and decisive set, the Lady Tigers took the match 3-2 after a 15-7 victory and ended the day on a high note heading into Sunday.
Game leaders were Jylen Whitten with 16 kills, Alexandra Burney and Damassey Thompson with one ace each.
Thompson also had 21 assists while Alana Washington with 20 digs, Camry Dabney with two blocks.
The Lady Tigers (6-13, 3-1) conclude play at the SWAC Western Division Round-Up tomorrow against the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers with first serve set for 3 p.m.
