Lady Aces and Lady Redhawks Take Two From Tigers Friday Afternoon

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. - The Jackson State volleyball team took on the Southeast Missouri Lady Redhawks and the Evansville Lady Aces on Friday afternoon, a part of a double header matchup in the Southeast Missouri Volleyball Tournament.

The host school, Southeast Missouri, took care of business in game one against the Lady Tigers on their way to a 3-0 victory after winning all three sets, 25-10, 25-11, and 25-18.

In game one, the Tigers only managed 18 kills as a team as they were led by Jylen Whitten with a team high four kills against SEMO. Damassy Thompson finished with a game high 10 assists while Alana Washington registered a team high 10 digs.

The Blue and White looked to rebound in game two of Friday's doubleheader matchup, this time against the University of Evansville Lady Aces.

Evansville took over the first set by handing the Tigers a 25-18 defeat but struggled early in set two against JSU.

JSU jumped out to a 17-12 lead midway through the second set, and looked poised to finish strong, yet the Aces managed to go on a 12-3 run over the next 15 match points to regain the momentum and hand the Tigers another set loss, as JSU fell behind 2-0.

Jackson State put up a fight in set three but ultimately fell by a final score of 25-23 to fall in the overall set 3-0.

With the loss, the Tigers fall to 3-3 overall on the season. JSU will get another opportunity tomorrow morning against Western Illinois in an 11 a.m. matchup for the final game the Tigers will play at the Southeast Missouri Tournament.
