Northwestern State Hands Lady Tigers a Close Home Opening Loss

JACKSON, Miss. - Jackson State held the Northwestern State Lady Demons to just one goal on Sunday afternoon at the JSU Soccer Field for the first home game of the 2019 season.

The one goal, which came in the 32nd minute of play, was just enough for the Lady Demons to hand the Tigers their fifth straight loss to open the season, yet the Blue and White have continued to show improvement each and every game despite falling in the early part of the schedule.

"I think we have been a lot better in the last two games, I felt like we took a huge step as a team in the last match in terms of all the intangibles, effort, desire, all those kind of things, and I thought today we were even better, we did not quit, our effort was good" said head coach Dr. Ted Flogaites.

"It's the first zero that we've put up in the sense that it's the first half we have not conceded a goal, which was the second half, so I think there's a lot of positives to build on."

It was the fewest goals allowed by the Tigers this season, but it still was not enough to pull off the victory.

"At the end of the day, we're not doing enough to win games and we do not have a healthy squad, so credit to the players for getting through it with basically 13-14 players."

Coach continues to see improvement in his squad despite the loss.

"Definite signs today that we are in the process of becoming better as a team. Attitude, energy and fighting spirit were on the rise and the result wasn't what we wanted but then again climbing a mountain requires courage and heart, and our players have huge courage and heart"

The Tigers finished the game with a total of three shots, led by All-SWAC nominee Jalah Carter with two shots, all of which were on goal.

The Tigers will look to get on the winning track this Friday with a matchup at McNeese State in Lake Charles, La. beginning at 7 p.m.
