JACKSON, Miss. - The Tigers fell on the road to Southern, 56-50, in a close contest in SWAC play.
Roland Griffin led the Tigers with 18 points in 34 minutes of play. Griffin finished 6-of-10 from the free throw line.
Jayveous McKinnis had 11 points and a team best six rebounds. The Brandon (Miss.) native wasa perfect 5-of-5 from the field.
Jonas James tallied 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting while producing a Blue and White best three steals.
As a team, Jackson State went 20-of-52 (38.5 percent) from field goal territory.Â
The Tigers outscored Southern in the paint, 34-28. JSU earned 17 points off of the bench.
Jackson State fell to 5-12 overall and 2-2 in the SWAC.
They return to action on Saturday for a conference matchup with Texas Southern with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m. at the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center.
