RUSTON, La. -Â Jackson State fell to 0-3 to begin the season, falling to Louisiana Tech Tuesday night in non-conference play.
Through the first four minutes of play, Jackson State held a slight 9-7 lead over the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. The two teams remained in a tight contest, with LaTech taking a 19-17 lead midway through the first half of play.Â
LaTech controlled the final ten minutes of the first half, finishing up the half on a 28-10 run to take a 47-27 into the break.Â
McKinnis led Jackson State with nine points and six rebounds at the half.
Tristan Jarrett and
Darius Hicks had six points and five points at the break.
Louisiana Tech went on to outpace the Tigers in the final half of play, 30-18, to ultimately defeat Jackson State 85-58 on the night.Â
Tristan Jarrett finished the night with 12 points scored on 4-of-9 shooting from the field. Jarrett also have five rebounds and three steals on the night.
Junior,
Jayveous McKinnis finished with his second double double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the contest. It was his second game in a row to record a double-double. McKinnis led the Tigers with three blocked shots.
Jonas James scored 12 points on the night on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. James tallied three steals in the matchup.
As a team, Jackson State shot 24-of-60 from the floor. The Tigers had 34 points in the paint and 25 points bench points.
With the loss, JSU fell to 0-3. The Tigers return to the court on Thursday on the road for a non-conference matchup at Bradley in Peoria, Ill. Tip-off time will be set at a later date.Â
