JACKSON, Miss. - The Lady Tigers traveled to Nacogdoches, Texas Thursday night and fell to Stephen F. Austin by a final score of 88-58 in non-conference play.
The Lady Tigers and Ladyjacks played a tight game throughout the first quarter of play as Jackson State trailed 15-12 after the first 10-minutes of play.
Stephen F. Austin opened the second quarter up on a 9-2 run, extending it's lead to 24-16 before an
Ameshya Williams layup,
Jariyah Covington three-pointer, and a
Dayzsha Rogan jumper brought the Lady Tigers back within a 24-23 score with 4:30 seconds left until the break. The Ladyjacks took a close 41-36 lead over JSU to halftime.Â
Jackson State took an early 44-41 lead in the third quarter before Stephen F. Austin regained the momentum, outscoring JSU 20-17 in the third quarter to take a 61-53 lead into the fourth quarter.Â
The fourth quarter went in the way of Stephen F. Austin as the Ladyjacks opened up the quarter on a 14-0 run to take a 75-53 lead. The Ladyjacks went on to defeat the Lady Tigers 88-58.
Three Lady Tigers scored in double-digits with
Dayzsha Rogan pacing Jackson State with 17 points.
Jariyah Covington finished with 16 points.
Ameshya Williams added her first double-double of the season, tallying 14 points and 12 rebounds. She also led JSU with three blocks and three steals.
As a team, Jackson State finished 19-of-48Â (39.6 percent) shooting from the field. JSU outrebounded SFA 32-28 and had 26 points in the paint.
Jackson State fell to 0-2 overall on the season but will look to get in the win column next Tuesday, Dec. 8, with a road matchup at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, La.Â
