Becerra Tosses Gem in Low Scoring Affair

JACKSON, Miss. – Anthony Becerra struck out a game-high 10 batters as Southern Illinois snuck past Jackson State 2-0 Friday evening in Tigers' season opener.
 
Becerra, a senior from Las Vegas kept the Salukis off-balance through eight innings and scattered three hits and allowed one run. Becerra also induced eight ground outs and six fly outs.
 
Despite not scoring a run, the Tigers recorded eight hits.
 
Jaylyn Williams went 2-for-4 and Wesley Reyes batted 2-for-4.
 
Devontae Rhodes, Chandler Dillard, Torreahno Sweet and Equon Smith each collected hits.
 
The Tigers return to action Saturday for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
