HOUSTON, Texas - Jackson State fell short to Texas Southern Saturday evening by a final score of 77-74 at HP&E Arena.
Roland Griffin led all scorers for JSU with 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting. The Tigers produced four total scorers with double-digit points including
Tristan Jarrett with 16 points,
Jonas James with 11 points, and
Jayveous McKinnis with 10 points.
Jarrett was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc, including three consecutive three pointers made in the early minutes of the first half.
McKinnis was yet again a force defensively, leading JSU with nine rebounds and five blocks.
The loss ended the Tigers five game winning streak as they fell to 10-15 overall and 7-5 in SWAC play. TSU completed the regular season sweep of JSU as they improve to 11-13 and 8-4 in conference play.
Jackson State led for 32:16 before running into late foul trouble as Texas Southern used a second half rally to eventually take the lead.
Despite the loss, the Tigers appear to be a team finding themselves and look poised of making a late half run at the back end of the conference schedule, leading up to the conference tournament.
As a team, they finished 27-of-55 from the field and 10-of-22 from three point territory.
They return to the court Monday evening with another SWAC matchup at Prairie View A&M at 8:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
