TROY, Ala. – Troy defeated Jackson State 14-5 Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
As a team, JSU (1-4, 0-0 SWAC) pounded out 14 hits and left 12 baserunners on base.
The top of the lineup for the Tigers performed well and went a combined 7-for-14. Leadoff hitter
CJ Newsome batted 3-fo-5,
Chandler Dillard went 2-for-5 and
Chris Prentiss finished 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Kelani Luke finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and
Wesley Reyes batted 1-for-4 and scored a run.
Jaylyn Williams also went 2-for-3 and scored a run.
Harry Colon was credited with the setback. He tossed 1.1 inning and surrendered two hits and two runs. It's also important to note that each team agreed change use their bullpen. The Tigers used six different pitchers, while Troy (5-0, 0-0 SBC) used seven hurlers from its staff.
The Tigers return to action this weekend for a series at Florida A&M. The two teams were scheduled to meet in Jackson at the MEAC/SWAC Baseball Tournament at Smith-Wills, however, the recent rain in the area cancelled the event.
