CONWAY, Ark. - For the second straight day the Jackson State Lady softball team dominated game one of a double-header, this time handing Morehead State a 7-2 loss.
The Lady Tigers scored three runs in the first, one in each of the second and third innings, and two more in the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead and never look bad.Â
Starting pitcher,
Kayla Owens did it with the stick as well as an impressive outing in the circle. Owens was 3-of-3 at the plate with an RBI double, and a run score. She had two runs batted in versus MSU.Â
Owens also pitched a complete game, throwing seven innings and allowing only two runs, five hits, and striking out 10 batters.
Ariana Cruz led the Tigers with three runs scored after finishing 2-of-2 at the plate. Jackson State had nine hits in the game as a team to go on to win 7-2.
In game two, Southern Miss took an early lead and never surrounded that edge over JSU. USM scored three runs in the first, six in the third, and four more in the fourth inning to take a 13-0 advantage over JSU.
The Lady Tigers scored one run in the fourth and two in the fifth with the help of RBI's by
Madelyn Prukop and
Alexis Arredondo.Â
JSU had seven hits against USM with
Kaitlyn Elzie and
Ariana Cruz finishing with two hits a piece.
The Golden Eagles went on the win by a final of 14-3 as JSU finished the weekend 2-2 in it's four matchups. The Lady Tigers exit the weekend with an overall record of 6-7.Â
The return to the field this Wednesday for it's first home contest of the season versus Northwestern State at 3 and 5 p.m. at the JSU Softball Complex.
