Cal Baptist, Ole Miss Defeat Lady Tigers in Saturday Doubleheader

OXFORD, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers dropped a pair of Saturday contests to California Baptist and Ole Miss as Jackson State slips to 6-11 overall on the season.

JSU pounded out 10 hits as a team versus Cal Baptist including a three hit (3-for-4), four RBI performance for Monica Serrano. Serrano added two double in the contest.

Ariana Cruz finished her day 2-for-4 at the plate versus CBU including an RBI and one run scored. Kelsey Smith drove in one run as well for the Tigers.

Jackson State held a 7-3 lead heading into the sixth inning, before Cal Baptist utilized a three run sixth and one run seventh to tie the game up at 7-7 to force extra innings.

In the eighth inning, using the international extra inning rule in which a player is placed at second base with one out, Cal Baptist was able to successfully cross a run over home plate to give CBU an 8-7 lead.

Given the same situation with an out and runner at second base to begin the bottom of the inning, Jackson State was unable to capitalize, as they fell to CBU 8-7.

In game two, which began the first round of the tournament after three round robin matchups to begin the weekend, Jackson State took on host school and No. 1 seeded Ole Miss.

The Rebels took an early 1-0 lead in the first, yet Jackson State erased the difference with a run in the third inning to tie the game up at 1-1.

Ole Miss went on to score three runs in the fourth and five in the fifth, including a walk off grand slam to give the home team the 9-1 victory, sending themselves to the championship round tomorrow.

Jackson State will take on Missouri State in the morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. for the tournament's consolation match.
