GRAMBLING, La. - On October 18, 2019 the Lady Tigers soccer team, for the second consecutive conference game in a row, took care of business with a 2-0 shutout win against the Grambling State Lady Tigers.
The Tigers, which appear to be moving the ship into the right direction under the direction of first year head coach Dr. Ted Flogaites, have suddenly found their identity as they continue to streak along the win column after back to back shutout wins.
"Defense was insane today, that was the second consecutive shutout. Second clean sheet and 180 minutes without conceding a goal which is never an easy feat at the college level" said the elated first year head coach of the Tigers.
In the first half in the 25th minute of play, Carlee Griffiths put the Tigers on the board to give the away team a 1-0 lead right before the half.
"Pernille's through ball to Carlee was tasty and then Carlee went on that mazy slalom run with a ridiculous finish for the first goal. Our fight, our desire to see off the match was palpable and full credit goes to the squad" added coach Flogaites.
The Tigers synergy in the second half helped create once again another opportunity at the net, this time from senior Alexis Henriquez who knocked one in for the Tigers second goal of the game to extend the lead to 2-0.
"The second goal came off of an incredible run out of the back by Sydni and then Alexis sprinted into the box and was hungry for the goal and beat their keeper to the ball. Great goals but an even better team performance."
The Tigers have found some serious momentum as of late in conference play as they now have an overall SWAC record of 3-3 with two straight shutout victories. The Blue and White have not conceded a goal since the 24th minute of play versus Prairie View in which the Tigers lost 1-0.
That scoreless streak reached 246 consecutive minutes when the final horn sounded Friday evening in at the GSU Soccer Complex.
"We have something going on here that feels good and if people knew some of the pain our players are playing through they would be instant JSU soccer fans. All we want to do is continue to grow the program and make our institution proud and these players are doing just that. With that win we equaled last year's win total and we're pumped."
