HUNTINGTON, W.V. - Jackson State men's basketball team fell to Marshall, 80-66, on Sunday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.
Throughout the first half, Jackson State (0-4) and Marshall (3-1) traded buckets.
Dyllan Taylor, who led the Tigers at intermission with 7 points, hit an incredible half court shot to end the first half to cut the deficit to one, 37-38.
The Tigers kept the game close in the beginning of the second stanza. However, the Thundering Herd opened up their lead to 10, 41-52, in the 14-minute mark of the second half. JSU fought back and was able to get as close as 61-64 late in the second half. Marshall went on a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach.
"I thought our guys competed at a high level for 35 minutes," head coach
Wayne Brent said. "We were down 65 to 61 with about five or six minutes, we just didn't finish the last five minutes of the game, but we were right there."
The constant makes by Marshall ended up being deflating for the Tigers who could not match the home team's offense, especially in the second half.
Gabe Watson finished with a team-high 18 points logging 28 minutes off the bench.
Jayveous McKinnis recorded his third double-double on the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds and he also finished with two blocks. The dynamic forward notched his 26th career double-double.
Chance Moore chipped in nine points off the bench.
