Women's Basketball Nearly Puts Up 100 In Win over S.C. State

JACKSON, MS - The Jackson State women's basketball team earned their second win of the 2021-2022 season in a dominant fashion over South Carolina State University on Saturday afternoon. The final score of the contest was 97-37.

Ameysha Williams-Holliday made a jumper to start the Lady Tigers offense to tie the game 0:17 seconds into the contest, which paved the way for JSU to stretch their lead to 61 points in the fourth quarter over SCSU. 

As a unit, the Lady Tigers offense made 37 shots from the field for a percentage of 56.1 percent, finished 7-for-11 from range, and were successful 80-percent of the time at the free throw line in the victory. The Jackson State defense held South Carolina State to just 18 points in the paint and 14 offensive rebounds, winning the battle of the boards with 39 defensive rebounds.

Five Tigers scored double-figures in the win, with Williams-Holliday leading the squad with 17 points and shot 72.7 percent from the field. The standout senior also put up six blocks, and recorded four rebounds. Dayzsha Rogan added 14 points, going 6-11 from the field and 2-3 from beyond the arc. Keshuna Luckett recorded 13 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Luckett led the Tigers from range in the win with a three-point percentage of 75, and was a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe along with Miya Crump, who finished with 11 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Ti'lan Boler led the bench with 12 points, six rebounds, and two assists and blocks each.

NOTABLES

- Jackson State State was 37-66 (56.1 percent) shooting from the field and 7-11 (63.6 percent) from the beyond the arc. The squad shot 80 percent from the charity stripe, converting on 16 of 20 attempts at the line.

- S.C. State shot 21.5 percent (14-65) from the field and 72.7 percent (8-11) from the free-throw line

- 60 points were scored by JSU in the paint. 41 points were scored off the bench. 16 points came off a fast break. 

- Jackson State recorded 11 more turnovers than S.C. State, with 21 and 10 respectively.

- S.C. State's bench was quiet, only scoring five points in the contest.
