STARKVILLE, M.S. — Jackson State women's basketball (2-5) fell to the Bulldogs of Mississippi State University in a hard-fought contest on Sunday evening.
Ameshya Williams struck first for the Tigers with a layup and although the Bulldogs came back right away to tie, Jackson State was able to increase their lead to five at the 5:35 mark in the first on back-to-back-to-back scores. Dayzsha Rogan made a bucket and a jumper to give the Tigers a 12-7 advantage over the Bulldogs, and Daja Woodard added two more points on a fast break layup. The Bulldogs went on a 5-2 possession run, and the first quarter ended with a final score of 20-16.
The Tigers had a gritty team scoring effort in the second quarter in which every student-athlete on the floor scored to overcome a seven-point deficit to head into the locker room with a lead of 33-29 at the half.
Both programs came out of the gate in the second half battling, trading possessions until Jackson State pulled ahead 43-37 after Ameshya Williams broke a tie by converting both free throw attempts at the 7:05 mark, and and Dayzsha Rogan made back-to-back scores. Mississippi State chipped away at the Lady Tiger lead again, and the game was tied again at the 1:42 mark in the third quarter. The game had a total of five lead changes and six ties.
Three Lady Tigers scored in double-figures in the contest, with one double-double. Dayzsha Rogan led the team with 22 points, shooting 9-10 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. She also recorded two rebounds and a single assist.
Ameysha Williams-Holliday recorded another double-double, scoring 15 points and earning 12 rebounds, of which were split evenly on both sides of the floor, and recorded a single steal and block respectively.
Jariyah Covington scored 14 points off the bench, and recorded seven rebounds, three blocks, and two assists.

- Jackson State was 28-62 (45.2 percent) shooting from the field and 5-12 from the charity stripe
- Mississippi State shot 37.3 percent (25-67) from the field and 65.5 percent (19-29) from the free-throw line
- The Tigers registered 33 rebounds, of which 20 were defensive and 13 were offensive
- The Bulldogs finished with 51 rebounds
- Both teams finished with 32 points in the paint by the end of the game
- MSU had four more turnovers than the Tigers
- MSU scored 21 points off second chances, compared to the Lady Tigers' nine.
- Jackson State scored more than twice points off fast breaks than Mississippi State, and the Lady Tigers bench scored four more points than the Bulldogs' bench.
