JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers went to Houston, Texas on Friday and handed Texas Southern a 2-1 loss in SWAC play to improve to 3-1 overall on the season.
Texas Southern took an early 1-0 lead in the 58th minute of the matchup before Jackson State freshman,
Harper Bennett, punched one into the back of the net to tie the game up at 1-1 in the 75th minute of play.
Tied up at 1-1, Jackson State took the lead on a
Sydni Wilson goal, just three minutes after Bennett's goal. JSU took a 2-1 lead with 12 minutes left in regulation.
The Lady Tigers went on to close out the match by winning 2-1 over Texas Southern.
Ayanna Pinder had two shots with two shots on goal while
Meagan Picon tallied two shots and two shots on goal as well.
Jackson State had a total of 24 shots as a team in the match with 12 shots on goal. Wilson and Bennett notched the lone goals for JSU. In the net,
Jordan Hamilton allowed just one goal in 90-minutes but came up clutch defensively with seven saves.
With the win, JSU improves to 3-1 overall and 3-1 in SWAC play. JSU returns to the pitch on Sunday for a 1 p.m. CST matchup with Prairie View A&M in Prairie View, Texas.
