MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Jackson State baseball team took down the Alabama State Hornets Sunday afternoon, completing the series sweep by a final score of 4-3.
The Tigers collected eight hits as a team in the win, with runs in the second, third and fourth inning. In the second inning the Tigers tied the contest up at 1-1 with a
Jefrey Rodriguez single that scored
Marcus Atterberry.
In the third inning, JSU crossed two runs over with a
Chenar Brown single to center field that scored
Equon Smith and a throwing error that scored
Chandler Dillard.
The Tigers scored a fourth run in the fourth inning after a Dillard single to right that scored Atterberry as the Tigers took a 4-1 lead. JSU pitchers surrendered two more runs in the contest, but it was the Tigers that held onto the win by a final of 4-3 to earn the sweep.
Dillard led JSU with three hits in the game, while Rodriguez totaled two hits. Atterberry had a team best two runs scored.Â
Nikelle Galatas earned the win, going 7.0 innings pitched with two runs allowed and seven strike outs.
Steven Davila earned the save out of the bullpen.
Jackson State improves to 6-5 overall on the season and 3-0 in SWAC play. The Tigers return to the diamond on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. contest with Tougaloo at home.
