Softball Completes Weekend Sweep Over Alabama A&M

JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State softball program completed the weekend sweep over Alabama A&M on Sunday afternoon, winning by finals of 3-1 and 3-2 in games two and three of the series.

Alabama A&M took the lead early before Jackson State evened things up at one in the bottom of the fourth inning. JSU took the lead late in the fifth inning after an error allowed JSU to score, securing the go ahead run. The Lady Tigers went on to win game one of Sundays double-header by a final of 3-1 to move 12-17 overall on the season.

The pitching was strong for the Lady Tigers as Takiya Hill struck out one in the complete game win for her in the circle. Hill lasted seven innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out one and walking one.

Jackson State saw the ball well today, racking up seven hits in the game. Isabel Gusman and Zoey Keyes all collected multiple hits for JSU with Keyes and Gusman each collecting two hits a piece.

Game two featured a similar outcome with the Lady Tigers getting down early 1-0 to the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth inning. Yet, JSU answered right back in the bottom half of the fourth inning with a three run shot by Isis Taylor to put JSU on top 3-1. Alabama A&M cut the JSU lead down to one run in the seventh inning but JSU held strong, securing the win by a final of 3-2 in the final game of the series to improve to 10-4 overall in SWAC play with the series sweep.

The Lady Tigers pounded out six hits in the win and were led by six different hitters with one hit a piece. Taylor led the team with all three runs driven in on the three-run home run in the fourth inning.

Macie Kuppenbender picked up the win for JSU, throwing the complete game with run run allowed on nine total hits. She also struck out two batters to improve to 5-7 on the season.
