JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers softball team fell in a heartbreaker on Thursday evening to Alcorn State by a final of 11-9 in game one of the three game series.
Alcorn State jumped out to a 5-run in the first inning before taking a 7-0 advantage in the second inning The Lady Tigers trimmed the score down to 7-2 with two runs scored in the second inning.
Down 8-2 in the fourth inning, JSU went on to score 7-runs over the next two innings to take their first lead of the game at 9-8, after trailing by seven runs at one point. However, in the top of the seventh inning, Alcorn scored three runs with the help of a two-run home run to take the lead and ultimately hand JSU a 11-9 loss in game one of the weekend.Â
Jackso State pounded put 13 hits as a team and were led by
Samiah Huckabee with three hits.
Zoey Keyes,
Alexis Arredondo, and
Isabel Gusman each tallied two hits in the game.
The Lady Tigers fall to 13-20 overall on the season and 10-5 in SWAC play as they return to the diamond tomorrow for a double-header matchup with the Lady Braves beginning at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. at the JSU Softball Complex. Senior day activities will be held between the contests.
