JACKSON, Miss. - The Jackson State Lady Tigers softball team took down Grambling State by a final score of 3-1 Wednesday afternoon to take the three game series on the season 2-1.
The two teams previously met back on March 24 in a two game split with JSU taking game one, 12-4, before falling to GSU 7-6 in game two. On Wednesday, JSU took an early 1-0 lead on an
Isabel Gusman sac fly that scored Brianna Simms-Johnson from third in the fourth inning.
In the sixth inning, JSU added two more runs on a double by
Makayla Caballero that put the Lady Tigers up 3-0 over Grambling. Grambling got one run back in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Tigers defense and solid pitching by
Kayla Owens helped shut down Grambling's comeback opportunity. JSU won 3-1 to take the series over Grambling on the season.
Jackson State pounded out seven hits as a team, behind six different Lady Tigers with at least a hit.
Alexis Arredondo led JSU with two hits on the day and were also led by Caballero with two runs batted in.
Jackson State improved to 12-6 overall in the SWAC on the season, which sits as a SWAC East best.
