GULFPORT, Miss. - Jackson State fell in game one of this week's SWAC Tournament by a final score of 4-3 to Southern.
Southern took a 2-0 lead in the first inning before JSU got a run back in the bottom half of the first inning to cut the game to a 2-1 deficit.
In the second and third inning, the Lady Tigers notched one run a piece, jumping to a 3-2 advantage over Southern The Lady Tigers held Southern scoreless in the fourth and fifth inning, yet the Lady Jaguars put two moe runs on the board in the top half of the sixth inning to regain the lead, 4-3.
Jackson State was unable to answer, as Southern went on to win the opening round game by a final of 4-3. Jackson State pounded out seven hits as a team and were led by seven different players with one hit a piece.
Zoey Keyes and
Makayla Caballero each tallied an RBI in the game.
Isis Taylor,
Isabel Gusman, and
Monica Serrano totaled one run scored each, respectively.
Kayla Owens went 6.1 innings pitched, while striking out six opposing hitters.
The Lady Tigers fell to 15-22 with the loss. They return to action tomorrow afternoon versus Alabama A&M beginning at 11 a.m. CST at the Gulfport Sportsplex in Gulfport, Miss.
