ITTA BENA, Miss. - Zoey Keyes did the opposing team no favors on Wednesday, picking up four hits over four at bats and leading Jackson State to a 10-2 win over Mississippi Valley State
Keyes doubled in the second, singled in the third, doubled in the fifth, and doubled in the seventh in her four at bats on the afternoon. JSU got on the board in the first inning when
Alexis Arredondo grounded out, scoring one run to take a quick 1-0 lead.
The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead over MVSU as JSU earned key at bats by
Monica Serrano and
Makayla Caballero, all knocking in runs in the inning.
The Lady Tigers went on to win by a final of 10-2 over MVSU, as
Takiya Hill was the winning pitcher in the circle. Hill surrendered just two runs on seven hits over six and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking one.
Isabel Gusman had a huge day at the plate, finishing with a multiple hit conte, adding a homer in the second inning.
JSU totaled 13 hits in the game and were led by Keyes, Serrano, Caballero, and Gusman as all managed multiple hits. Keyes led JSU with four hits in four at bats.
The Lady Tigers improved to 6-2 in SWAC play with the win. JSU returns to the diamond on Saturday for the first game of a three game series at Alabama State, in Montgomery, Ala.
