JACKSON, Miss - The Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers (3-2-2, 1-0 SWAC) edged the Jackson State Lady Tigers 2-1 on Friday afternoon in SWAC action.
The Lady Tigers (1-9, 0-1 SWAC) weren't able to overcome a 2-0 deficit despite dominating most of the game.
Prairie View outshot Jackson State 12(9) to 6(4). The Lady Panthers got off to an early lead in the 39th minute when Andrea Nugent found the back of the net. D'Sanye Nugent was credited with the assist. In the 82nd minute, Prairie View was awarded a corner kick that bounced across the front of the goal and was finished by Regan Scott to extend their lead to 2-0. Lisa Griffin was credited with the assist.
In the 85th minute,
Sydni Wilson was able find the net off of a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Tionna Taylor had another solid performance in the net for the Lady Tigers recording seven saves on the afternoon.
"I thought we were the better team and I thought we dominated the vast majority of the match", head coach
Dr. Ted Flogaites said. "I'm bitter over the loss in a way I can't articulate. We gave them nothing, they created nothing, and yet they have the win. Right now we aren't hungry enough to win matches. Saying that we played well is hollow at this stage of the season. But it's okay, we are coming for everything and everyone. Wounded animals become awfully dangerous. Our attention is already on Sunday, we have no more time for a post-mortem on today's match."
The Lady Tigers will remain at home as they host Texas Southern in SWAC action Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is set for 1 p.m.
