JSU Falls To Bethune-Cookman On The Road

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA - The Jackson State men's basketball team had its two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday as the Tigers fell on the road to the Wildcats by a final score of 55-50 inside Moore Gymnasium.

JSU (4-13, 2-4 SWAC) was led by Jayveous McKinnis who was just shy of a triple double scoring a team-high 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 blocks. Ken Evans Jr. also finished in double figures for the Tigers with 14 points and six boards off the bench.

It was JSU who was able to extend a lead first opening the game on a 13-3 scoring run the first five minutes of the game.

However, the Wildcats answered with a 8-0 run to get back into it and ultimately take its first lead of the game after going on another 12-0 with 7:41 left to play to take a 23-16 lead. JSU chipped away as Jonas James III made a jumper to put the Tigers down only two at intermission, 27-25.

JSU later had its back against the ropes, down by eight with nine minutes to play, but the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to tie the game up behind a beautiful dime from Malachi Wideman who found Jonas James III in stride for a fast-break acrobatic layup to pull within two, 47-45 with 7:37 left in the contest.

From there, the Wildcats countered outscoring the Tigers 8-5 and were able to put the game away to seal the victory.
