Volleyball Falls at FAMU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| The Jackson State volleyball team took on Florida A&M Saturday afternoon as the Tigers prepare to close out its regular season slate in the Sunshine State. The Tigers fell to the Rattlers, 3-1 at the Al Lawson Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Jackson State (12-15, 11-4 SWAC) took a 6-5 lead to open the first set as Alexis Williams registered a kill

-Florida A&M (17-12, 14-1 SWAC) tied the set at 10 as JSU committed a ball handling error

-JSU climbed back on top as Karys Dove registered a service ace to give the Tigers a 19-14 lead

-Jackson State went on an 8-1 run to seal the first set, 25-16

-A kill from Alexis Williams put the Tigers on the board first in the second set

-FAMU came back and took a 6-4 lead over the Tigers with a service ace

-A 13-1 run carried the Rattlers to a 25-10 second set victory

-Jackson State kept FAMU in close reach going to set three as Olivia Flanagan recorded a kill to tie the score at seven

-The Rattlers began to pull away, but JSU closed the gap to one point, 17-16, after capitalizing off a FAMU error

-The momentum wasn't enough for the Tigers as Florida A&M got away with the lead and the 25-20 third set win

-The Tigers opened the third set taking an 11-8 lead over FAMU

-A kill by Dominique Washington helped the Rattlers tie the match at 11

-JSU tied the score at 15 with a kill from Taila Gaines

-FAMU immediately took the lead, 16-15

-Jackson State tied the score again at 18 as Jylen Whitten was credited with the kill

-The score was tied four more times before FAMU pulled away with the win in the fourth set, 25-23

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Jackson State finished with 46 kills, 131 total attacks and 44 assists

-Jylen Whitten notched a double-double registering 12 kills and 15 digs

-Alexis Williams finished with 12 digs, eight kills and two aces

-Damassy Thompson recorded 21 assists while Karys Dove followed with 19 assists and three aces

-Alana Washington added 15 digs for the Tigers' defense

-The Tigers had a total of 58 digs, 11 blocks and seven aces

UP NEXT

The Tigers will compete against Bethune-Cookman in Tallahassee Sunday in its final regular season match of the season. First serve is set for 2:30 pm at the Al Lawson Center.
