Williams and Whitten Record Double-doubles in Tigers' 3-1 Loss to Bethune-Cookman

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.| Alexis Williams and Jylen Whitten both registered double-doubles, but the Jackson State volleyball team fell to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 16-25, 21-25) Sunday on the road at the Al Lawson Center.

The loss dropped Jackson State's record to 12-16 overall and 11-5 in SWAC play.

The Lady Tigers were led by double-doubles from both Whitten, who had 11 kills and 15 digs, and Williams, who had 18 kills and 17 digs. Olivia Flanagan also added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Alana Washington chipped in with 15 digs to go with four blocks from Taila Gaines.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Tigers grabbed the first set 25-20 helped by a strong performance on the attacking end. Jackson State registered a .417 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set victory. The Lady Tigers opened up a 20-14 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.

SET 2 | Jackson State then dropped set two 25-19, tying the match at a set apiece. Jackson State trailed by as many as six points as Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up nine times before the Lady Wildcats took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | A third-set loss put Jackson State behind two sets to one. The Lady Tigers lost a tough set 25-16. Jackson State trailed by as many as nine points as Bethune-Cookman grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up three times before the Lady Wildcats took over the lead.

SET 4 | Jackson State lost the fourth set and the match, falling 25-21. The Lady Tigers dropped a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured 10 lead changes and was tied 16 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
