LITTLE ROCK, AR --Trace Young scored 24 points and Ken Evans added 20, but the Jackson State men's basketball team fell to the Little Rock Trojans 94-91 on the road Sunday.
The Tigers (0-3) had four players score in double figures, led by Young, who had 24 points. Evans tacked on 20 points, six rebounds and two steals and Jamarcus Jones helped out with 12 points and eight rebounds off of the bench.
Led by Romelle Mansel's four offensive rebounds, Jackson State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in 16 second chance points.
The Jackson State defense was a problem in Sunday's game, forcing 19 Little Rock turnovers while committing 16. Those takeaways turned into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Chase Adams led the way individually for the Tigers with two steals.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 14-10 advantage, Jackson State went on a 7-0 run with 13:13 left in the first half to increase its lead to 21-10. The Tigers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 41-37 advantage. Jackson State relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down eight shots to account for 24 of its 41 points.
Little Rock proceeded to take a 71-60 lead before Jackson State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Mansel's layup, to shrink the deficit to 71-67 with 7:24 to go in the contest. The Tigers kept their comeback going, holding the lead with 17:24 left to play, but Little Rock managed to hold on for the 94-91 win. Jackson State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 50 total points.
