JACKSON, Miss.| The Jackson State University volleyball team celebrated senior night and received their 2021 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Regular Season Championship rings during their 3-0 win over Mississippi Valley State Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jackson State (12-14, 11-3 SWAC) opened the first set with a 10-5 lead
-Mississippi Valley State (1-23, 0-15) cut the deficit to two as Chardea Berthelot came up with back-to-back aces
-Taila Gaines registered a service ace to give the Tigers a 21-11 lead
-Karys Dove sealed the first set with another service ace
-The Tigers got off to a 10-3 start as Kaiya Wall put down a kill
-JSU pressed on with their lead as Jordan Jones recorded a kill to boost the Tigers over the Devillettes 17-5
-A kill from Olivia Flanagan gave the Tigers a 20-7 advantage in the second set
-The Tigers closed out set two with another service ace from Olivia Flanagan
-MVSU opened set three keeping the Tigers close tying the game at three
-JSU began to pull away leading 17-10 as Makenzie Washington recorded a kill
-Morghan Chambers closed the match with a kill as the Tigers topped Mississippi Valley State 25-19
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Kaiya Wall led the Tigers' offense with seven kills while Taila Gaines and Jordan Jones each had six kills
-Gaines registered four aces; Jylen Whitten and Karys Dove each had three aces
-Dove recorded 18 assists followed by Damassy Thompson (17)
-Alana Washington led the defense with 13 digs
UP NEXT
The Tigers will head to Tallahassee, Fla. to take on Florida A&M on November 11 in their final road run of the season. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
