Martino Scores Career-high 22 points in Jackson State's 74-61 Loss at Mizzou

COLUMBIA, Mo.| After a shaky third quarter that nearly ended in a comeback, the Jackson State women's basketball team fell on the road to Missouri, 74-61, Sunday at Mizzou Arena. 

Liz Martino scored a career-high 22 points while tacking on two steals, one assist and a rebound. Keshuna Luckett helped out with eight points, four assists and two steals and Angel Jackson chipped in with 10 points. Ti'lan Boler pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Jackson State, grabbing 14 boards and turning them into 13 second chance points.

Jackson State forced 15 Missouri turnovers. The Lady Tigers turned those takeaways into six points on the offensive end of the floor. Martino's two steals led the way for Jackson State.

HOW IT HAPPENED

· Jackson State kept it close in the first quarter tying the score at 10, but entered the second frame down 15-12.

· JSU continued to lose ground in the second quarter coming within two of Mizzou

· The Tigers faced a 35-27 halftime deficit

· Missouri continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 49-34 advantage before Jackson State went on a 7-0 run to trim its deficit to 49-41 with 34 seconds to go in the third.

· Missouri countered and stretched its lead to 51-41 heading into the fourth. Jackson State took advantage of three Missouri turnovers in the quarter, scoring four points off takeaways.

· Missouri kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 74-53 advantage before Jackson State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Angel Jackson's layup, to shrink the deficit to 74-61 with 12 seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game.

· Jackson State fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 20 points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

· Jackson State shot 24-for-60 (40 percent) from the field and 6-of-19 (31.6 percent) from the 3-point line

· Liz Martino led the Tigers with a career and game-high 22 points

· Daja Woodard registered a game-high nine rebounds

· Angel Jackson added 10 points and four rebounds

· JSU recorded 24 points in the paint, 15 bench points, 13 second chance points, six points off 15 Mizzou turnovers and four fastbreak points

· Jackson State listed a 34-30 rebounding advantage

· Jackson State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 14 offensive boards in the game.

· Keshuna Luckett posted eight points, four points and four assists for JSU

· Mizzou shot 28-for-54 (51.9 percent) and 63.3 percent (9-for-14) from the free throw line

· Hayley Frank led Mizzou 21 points and four rebounds

· Lauren Hansen followed 13 points, one rebound and one assist

· Mizzou scored 32 points in the paint, 21 bench points, 21 points off 22 JSU turnovers, 12 second chance points and nine fastbreak points
