JACKSON, Miss.| Junior guard, Ti'Ian Boler scored a season-high 24 points as the Jackson State women's basketball team hosted Texas in its home opener Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers fell 75-58 to the Longhorns at the Mississippi Coliseum.
Ti'lan Boler led the JSU with 24 points and seven rebounds. Jariyah Covington added nine points and Daja Woodard helped out with five points and six rebounds.
How It Happened
- Jackson State (2-6) struggled out of the gate, falling behind 16-5 at the end of the first quarter.
- Texas (6-4) pressed on to widen its lead jumping ahead of JSU by 15 points
- The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 33-17 halftime deficit.
- Jackson State's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Tigers faced a 57-29 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter
- Jackson State played well near the basket, scoring six of its 12 points in the paint.
- Jackson State narrowed its deficit to 63-36 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Covington's three, to shrink the deficit to 63-43 with 6:03 to go in the contest
- JSU kept their comeback going, but Texas managed to hold on for the 75-58 win
- Jackson State took advantage of six Texas turnovers in the quarter, scoring 11 points off of those takeaways
