FORT WORTH, TX --The Jackson State men's basketball team got a 17-point showing from the bench, but fell 78-51 to the TCU Horned Frogs on the road Tuesday.
Romelle Mansel led the Tigers (1-7) with eight points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Coltie Young tacked on 14 points and Jamarcus Jones helped out with eight points off the bench.
Jackson State out-rebounded TCU 45-39 in Tuesday's game, paced by Mansel's 11 boards. The Tigers also grabbed 17 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points.
The Jackson State defense was a problem in Tuesday's game, forcing 13 TCU turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Mansel's three steals led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
Jackson State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-27 heading into halftime.
TCU kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 54-34 advantage before Jackson State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Chase Adams' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 54-39 with 10:07 to go in the contest. TCU responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 78-51. Jackson State took care of business in the paint, recording 12 of its 24 points in the lane.
