The Jackson State University Tigers lost 2-1 to Butler on day two of the JSU Tournament on Saturday at Braddy Field.

In the JSU-Butler contest, neither team could generate any offense until the Bulldogs scored their two runs in the top of the fifth inning. Billy Wurch kicked things off by reaching base on a walk and later scoring off a single by Travis Holt. A double by E.J. Gargano scored Holt.

In the bottom of the eighth, right fielder
Kenneth Bell III struck out swinging but managed to reach first on a passed ball and then advanced to second base. After stealing third, Bell scored the Tigers' lone run on a sacrifice ground out by center fielder Jatavis Melson.
In the first game of the day, Prairie View A&M dropped a 10-1 decision to Butler, before the JSU Tigers took the field against Butler, losing to the Bulldogs by the scant margin.

In the Prairie View-Butler game, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead after scoring in the top of the first and fourth innings, but the PVAMU Panthers made it a contest when first baseman Alex Martinez, who went 3-for-3 on the day, homered to left field, narrowing the Panthers' deficit to 2-1. But Butler then tacked on three runs in the top of the seventh inning and five in the top of the eighth, accounting for its 10-1 victory.

Prairie View fell to 1-4 on the season with its loss, while Butler increased it record to 2-3 before taking on the homestanding JSU Tigers. Â Victor Mendoza (0-1) suffered the loss for the Panthers, while Cole McDaniel picked up the win for Butler.

 The Tigers (4-4) will conclude the tournament facing Prairie View A&M Sunday at 1 p.m. at Braddy Field.
