ATLANTA – The Jackson State University baseball team lost at Georgia Tech 16-6 in game one of a two-game midweek series.
A trio of Tigers went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Jaelen Williams hit his second home run of the season, and he and
El'Rico Riley each had two RBI.
Ty Hill had a double among his two hits, as JSU had five extra base hits and 11 overall in the contest.
Williams' solo home run to left field in the fourth inning cut the Tigers' deficit to 3-2. After Georgia Tech extended to a 9-2 lead after four, JSU chipped away at the margin.
In the fifth,
Colby Guy led off with a single to center and advanced to second on a fielding error. Following a ground out that moved him to third, Guy scored on a fielding error to bring the Tigers to within 9-3.
Jackson State added a pair of runs in the sixth. With one out,
Caleb Evans doubled to right center. With two out,
Omar Gomez-Rivera doubled down the left field line, scoring Evans. After stealing third, Gomez-Rivera scored on a
Jatavis Melton single up the middle to bring the score to 9-5.
Trailing 11-5 after six, the Tigers scored a final run in the seventh. Guy led off with a walk, and moved to third on Hill's ground-rule double to right field. Riley's infield single to third scored Guy, but JSU could get no closer.
