MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Jackson State University baseball team lost at Alabama State 12-2 Friday night at the Wheeler-Watkins Baseball Complex.
Jatavis Melton went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while
Jaelen Williams and
El'Rico Riley each had two hits for Jackson State.
The Tigers scored in each of the first two innings. Melton led of the game with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Devontae Rhodes.
Ty Hill's RBI single to center scored Melton for a 1-0 lead.
Tied at 1-1 in the second,
Omar Gomez-Rivera walked with one out and moved to third on Melton's single to right center. Rhodes' second sacrifice bunt scored Gomez-Rivera for a 2-1 Tigers lead. However, JSU did not score again.
Game two of the series is Saturday at 6 p.m.
