TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Jackson State University Lady Tigers lost a pair of one-run softball games to Florida A&M here on Saturday, falling by a score of 6-5 in game one and 4-3 in game two.
The losses dropped JSU to 17-20 on the season, 8-7 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
Game 1: Florida A&M 6, JSU 5
In Saturday's opening game against FAMU, the Lady Tigers spotted the home team a 1-0 lead before tying the contest at 1-1 in the second inning.
Isis Taylor started the inning by reaching base on a walk and later advanced to third on a FAMU error. She scored after
Alexis Arredondo, who had reached base on an error, was caught stealing.
After FAMU went up 2-1 in the bottom of the fourth, the Lady Tigers responded in the top of the next inning with four runs to go up 5-2. A triple by
Jalia Hubbard scored
Breanna Kimber to tie the game at 2-2. Hubbard then gave JSU a 3-2 lead after
Samiyyah Huckabee reached base on a fielder's choice coupled with another FAMU error. The final two runs for JSU came off a Mari Stephens double, which scored Huckabee and
Zoey Keyes, who had earlier reached base on a hit by pitch.
FAMU tied the game in the sixth, and scored the winning run in the seventh.
For JSU, Stephens was her team's lone multi-hit performer, going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.
Game 2: FAMU 4, JSU 3
The nightcap game saw FAMU surge to a 3-0 lead over the first two innings, but the Lady Tigers responded with three runs of their own in the top of the third. The first two runs for JSU came when Stewart blasted a two-run homer to center field that also scored
Rachel Barker, who began the inning by reaching base on a hit by pitch. After Stewart's heroics, Huckabee was walked and then scored on a sacrifice fly to right field.
The Lady Rattlers' winning run came in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Stewart was the game's lone batter with multiple hits. She accumulated two hits in three at bats with two RBI and one run scored.

The Lady Tigers will return to action next Friday with an ESPNU-televised matchup against SWAC foe Alabama State at 12 noon. It will be the first of a three-game weekend series against the Lady Hornets.
